The famous expression, “behind every great man, there is a great woman” speaks volumes about the support and encouragement that women have provided to their men over the centuries.

This is not just a case of “standing by your man,” but also “standing up for what is right” and making a difference along the way.

Highlighted among the 10 women who are listed in our Top Celebrity Women, we ran the gamut from the wife of the president and the late wife of a slain civil rights leader to strong career women and legendary trendsetters.

Regal Magazine salutes an impressive group of women that you will rarely, if ever, see together. We felt it necessary for our readers to hold a torch to showcase "she-roes."

Topping our list of top celebrity women is the lawyer, mother, author and advocate who is also married to the President of the United States. Michelle Obama has always been focused and as the First Lady, her focus on addressing obesity in children and encouraging more exercise among young people has hit a number of positive chords.

Second on our list of top celebrity women is billionaire philanthropist, talk show host and producer Oprah Winfrey who has taken the concept of branding and program development to levels unheard of for women of color and she continues to evolve.

A longtime friend of Oprah and a legend in her own right is Maya Angelou who holds the third spot and her poetic verse and commentary is motivational for men and women.

In the fourth spot, Halle Berry has proven that she is more than a pretty face. This Oscar-winning actress continues to broaden her performance base and deliver stunning performances on the big screen.

Serena Williams is fifth on Regal's list of top celebrity women and she has evolved in her own right on the tennis court and in the business world while, at the same time, maintaining her own sense of style and self.

Our next group is equally engaging and multifaceted, which is a characteristic that our readers appreciate. At number six, Jada Pinkett Smith also wears numerous hats. As actor Will Smith’s better half, Jada juggles the high demands of being a wife, actress, musician, executive producer, mother and now the support system for the emerging stars in her home – her children Jaden and Willow.

Our next two levels of top celebrity women are tied with true legends that set the tone for others. At the seventh spot, screen legends Lena Horne and Dorothy Dandridge whose histories as trailblazers is well documented as they used their brains, talent and beauty to break ground for Black women in Hollywood.

Tied at number eight are civil rights trailblazers, Dorothy Height and Coretta Scott King the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These women dedicated their lives to make America fulfill its mission of fair treatment for all and they both helped to keep Dr. King’s dream alive.

Entrepreneur Sheila Johnson holds the ninth spot and represents the new era of emerging business owner, philanthropist and sportswoman. Who said women cannot do it all and have men appreciate their efforts?

At number 10, our readers wanted to recognize all the women serving in the military for their courage, sacrifice and commitment. They are tops and we salute them all!

Faster Vs. The Fast and the Furious: Brand Theft?

Faster is a new action thriller movie, set for release on November 24, 2010. Just hearing the name of the movie immediately makes one think of The Fast and the Furious series. Both movies surely have one thing in common: speed.

Faster will have to meet the high standards of action-viewers if it plans to compare to The Fast and the Furious series. It will immediately draw fans from the series, as it takes a ride on The Fast and the Furious’ audience. Based on current synopsis and reviews, the movie does have the speed, the thrill, and the action that The Fast and the Furious has. The theme of Faster is centered on vengeance, an almost identical theme to The Fast and the Furious series.

Faster’s theme is about a “Driver” who is seeking revenge for his brother’s death after being sentenced to prison for 10 years. Driver’s imprisonment resulted from a botched bank robbery, the same robbery that Driver’s brother died, and you can imagine the amount of hatred and revenge one can build up over 10 years of jail time. During his pursuit of his brother’s killer, Driver is also being tracked down by two individuals, one a veteran cop, the other an egocentric hit man.

Similarly, the plot of The Fast and the Furious series is about a driver who seeks revenge for his friend’s death, while being chased by local law enforcements. Both movies center on the idea of the “hunter being the hunted”.

The themes are not the only things similar in the movies. Coincidence or not, the star and main character of each movie are almost identical. In The Fast and the Furious series, the rebellious driver is played by Vin Diesel, a super-built muscle man. Faster will be starring Dwayne Johnston, also known as “The Rock”, who is an ex-wrestler also resembling a super-built muscle man. If you pull up pictures of both actors, you will notice that they even look like twins.

The final comparison between the movies is the name. When movie lovers hear the word “fast”, “faster”, or “fastest” they immediately think of The Fast and the Furious movies. This series already consists of four movies and is putting out a fifth in the upcoming years. By choosing the name Faster, this movie could easily be using the brand of The Fast and the Furious series.

Overall, it does not seem to be a coincidence that Faster has so many similarities to The Fast and the Furious series. Faster seems to be taking the latter’s success for a ride, hoping for a big audience, and large revenues. Based on the synopsis and reviews of the movie, it does seem to be action-packed and thrilling for car and violence lovers. Although the movie might be carried off the success of former action-car movies, it most likely will deliver what fans are seeking: speed, guns, bullets, cars, violence, and girls.

Realistically, the success of Faster should not be of any concern, especially to the directors and producers of the movie. Rather, these individuals should be worried about a lawsuit from the creators of The Fast and the Furious series. From the name of the movie to the theme to the main characters, there is plenty of evidence to support brand theft by the makers of Faster. The courts will have to decide. Only time will tell.

Rapunzel to Tangled: Why the Change?

Tangled is Disney’s newest feature, expected for release on November 24, 2010. However, throughout production the movie has mysteriously undergone several name changes. Before analyzing these name changes, one needs to look at the movie in more detail. To start, let’s take a look at the storyline.

The firm is based on a German fairy tale named Rapunzel. In the story, Rapunzel is a princess with magical healing powers, but is kidnapped and banished to a tower, isolated from her Kingdom. An evil witch named Gothel kidnapped Princess Rapunzel in an act of revenge and greed, in order to use the healing powers for her own endeavours. After years of seeing lights of her nearby Kingdom, Rapunzel eagerly desires to leave her tower. Unfortunately, Gothel forbids Rapunzel from doing such a thing and Rapunzel feels hopeless... until Flynn Rider arrives.

Flynn Rider, a thief with stolen crown jewels from the Kingdom, arrives at Rapunzel’s tower seeking a safe haven. After breaking into the tower, Rapunzel immediately steals Flynn’s satchel of jewels and promises to only return them if he helps her escape the tower and venture to the nearby Kingdom. The rest of the story centers on their adventure to the Kingdom.

Overall, the German fairy tale is another story focusing on a princess being saved. Disney has already produced many films with the same ideology. Rapunzel is the true name of the fairy tale. It would only make sense that it remained the title of the feature, so why would Walt Disney change the name?

Well, in 2009 Disney produced a very successful film called The Princess and the Frog. The film grossed over $270 million in the box office. Worldwide, it was critically acclaimed for its success as most movies struggle to hit $150 million. The key to answering our question is that, although successful, it was not as successfully as Disney had hope for.

When Walt Disney produces a film, they target the largest audience they can. Their main audience is, of course, children so Disney must target both boys and girls. Unfortunately, the majority of revenue from The Princess and the Frog came from female viewers, whereas Disney had hoped for a larger audience filled with many male viewers. Disney concluded that the reason their audience was too small is that the marketing of the film was geared towards girls more than boys.

After realizing this, it was clear that Disney should not focus solely on Princess Rapunzel. Therefore, Disney decided to also focus equivalently on the male hero of the film, Flynn Rider. This is evident in Disney’s marketing communication of the film. If you are going to focus on two main characters, it would only make sense that the film’s title to be representative of this. “Rapunzel” as a title would put extra emphasis on the princess and take focus off Flynn. This is the exact problem that caused lost revenues with Disney’s 2009 film. Therefore, the name Tangled was chosen to highlight both characters and how each of their roles got tangled together.

Tangled may seem like an unusual name for a Disney film, but I’m sure the box office will tell you different.
