In 2011, one only has to stroll through any campus in the country, to see non-traditional students returning to school because a bad economy forced them out of what they thought was a stable career.
Hanks plays the title character in the movie who is fired because without a college degree, the company he works for (U Mart) sees no chance of him climbing the corporate ladder any further. To make matters worse he takes out a second loan on his house to buy out his ex-wife’s portion of their home but without a job he cannot pay the mortgage, which is now higher than the house is worth.
Furthermore, as Larry Crowne begins to pinch pennies, he realizes that his gas guzzling Chevrolet Tahoe is probably not his best transportation option, and buys a cost-effective scooter from his yard sale guru neighbors Lamar (Cedric the Entertainer) and wife B’ella (Taraji P. Henson).
After not being able to find another job, Larry decides to enter a local community college.
Although many in the media have highlighted older college students returning to school because of the bad economy, very few have highlighted the dynamic that exists when you have professors in the same age group as students. Larry Crowne does an excellent job of bringing to light the potential that romantic relationships may develop in settings where it may be off limit.
The professor who becomes smitten with Larry, and vice versa, is Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts) who searches for any reason to avoid teaching, especially classes at 8:00 AM. She stresses that she wants to make her students care, but it is obvious that she does not care much for her job or the way her marriage is going.
Mercedes is married to an Internet porn-addicted husband, who constantly chastises his wife for not having big breasts. When she finally has enough of his shenanigans, she is rescued from her despair by Larry. However, things become awkward between the two when the relationship turns intimate.
Thinking of her job security, she wants to keep their romantic incident a secret, and being a gentleman Larry obliges.
Like one would imagine, a film with Cedric the Entertainer, Hanks and Wilmer Valderrama (Dell Gordo) is hilarious and having Pam Grier in it as a college professor is great eye candy for the fellas.
But, Larry Crowne is a very good movie because the characters and the predicament they find themselves in is something that happens every day. And that is, sometimes loves occurs in the strangest places and at the wrong time, but when somebody changes your life for the better, that love is worth waiting for until the right time.
The professor and her mature student change each other’s lives for the better and prove that you are never too old to start again or start over.

In terms of what you can do while singing live, just make sure to keep good posture and breathing control. Also, on the day of a show avoid excessive talking or screaming.
It's actually not that hard to make sure your voice is properly taken care of, yet it gets overlooked very often by people learning how to become a singer. The Real Book Jazz Fake Book Story

Simply put, a “fake book” is a book of lead sheets. Lead-sheets are a basic musical skeleton of a tune with the melody and chords and lyrics (if any).
Musicians called it a fake book so that they can “fake” a tune as if they really knew the music and practiced it before.
Back in the early days, musicians mostly earned their money from a tip jar. People would request songs and if the musicians could play it, they got a tip. If the musicians would be able to play the requests especially if the song request was more sentimental in nature the evening tips grew larger as the clientele got more and more sauced. If the band couldn't play a song request people would start grumbling about how the bar shouldn't hire these musicians and consequently, if there was too much grumbling to the bartender, then the band would not get hired back. So if you have a couple of fake books and are able to read lead sheets you will stand a better chance of filling requests from the audience and get hired back. Makes economic sense as the more music your armed with and the better you are at reading music then the better chances you have of getting called back.
Some enterprising musicians would buy piano-vocal books, which was the only way to obtain music then, and cut out the melody line, chords and lyrics and paste them onto a single page often taking a 5 page score and compressing it down to a page. So if you had a book of 500 or so of the most requested tunes, you will be better able to fill the requests by the audience. Then other musicians would ask if they could buy a copy of the compiled tunes and the persons would photocopy their book and sell it for whatever they could get for it. This was a violation of copyright laws since no royalties were paid the the composers.
These days publishers like Hal Leonard have created their own fake books for specific styles such as Jazz, Rock, Latin R&B or Broadway show tunes. and have obtained author licenses to distribute their music.
Back in the 1960's or so students from Berklee College of Music started to compile the “Real Book” which was a mix of modern jazz and standards. Eventually it grew to 3 volumes but the first version was the most popular among jazz players. Sher publications came out with their “correct” version of the Real Book. And now publishers like Hal Leonard, Warner Brothers and Columbia came out with legal fake books with permissions and royalties paid to the composers.
Back in the day, musicians would purchase fake books from the trunk of a car in an alley somewhere or walking into a music store and asking for this special book you have for sale. Then you would hand over $35 and get your illicit Real Book. Many music stores got hauled into court for selling them.

Recently, on the suggestion of my wife and a friend of hers I was 'dragged along' to a Michael Buble concert.
Well, actually... I bought the tickets. But only because I love my wife so much - and knew she'd be thrilled.
Anyway, the concert was scheduled for a Saturday night on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. But it was as windy as Wellington that night and so the event got cancelled.
So after dinner we left and scheduled to come back the next night to see if we had better luck.
Thankfully, we did.
I say thankfully because I learnt a few lessons that night. The master of jazz is not only a great musician... he's also an incredible communicator, and has a solid understanding of human psychology. (Could this be one of the reasons he's achieved the heights of success?)
Here's what he did.
1. He opened up the concert by addressing the guys. And saying... "Men. I bet when you found out the concert was cancelled last night, you breathed a sigh of relief and thought... thank god. After all, when you see me on my album, you probably think 'What a smuck.' I know I would!
What's the psychology behind this? Firstly, he went straight for the jugular as to what people were thinking. He knows his target audience is female (they go wild over him) and he knows the guys are coming along for the ride.
The majority of guys aren't that into him. And in fact, many of us men are probably jealous he gets so much damned attention from the ladies.
He also realises some people are a tad upset over the fact the concert was cancelled.
In short... he brought the objections up to the surface and handled them immediately.
And you need to do the same in your ads and sales letters.
Here's an example of something I wrote in a sales letter to immediately answer people's objections about the property market (which at the time was seen as something to keep away from).
Notice how everywhere you turn today... the media keeps hollering at you:
"The property bubble is over"
"You can't make money from property anymore"
"Interest rates are going to go through the roof"
Give up. Don't invest now. Hold off... we keep being told. Yet in some areas the prices continue to rise. Like in... (then I listed areas where property has risen)
And here's another way of dealing with people's objections upfront...
"I know what you're thinking. You think I'm a stark, raving lunatic when I say.... (whatever claim you are making).
Well, before you have me strapped into a straight jacket and dragged to the nearest funny farm, think about this...
So take a lesson from the king of Jazz... and think about what's going on in the back of people's mind when they read you ad or sales letter. Then answer that objection upfront.
If you're a mechanic... they're probably worried you're going to rip them off and overcharge them.
If you're a pest controller, they're probably wondering if you're environmentally friendly. And if the toxins will damage their pets and plants.
Can you see how powerful this principle is? Can you see at one of the reasons Michel Buble has risen to the top...when someone of equal musical skill would have remained a brilliant but virtually unknown performer?
I don't know about you, but my experience tells me that our ability to get our message across has more to do with creating wealth and success than anything else - no matter what industry you're in.

Disney’s website Pixie Hollow is set to become even more popular with its surprise addition of a male fairy in its list of fairy personas based upon Tinker Bell. Kids can enter this online world and create their own fairy personas in order to play games and to interact with each other. Until now the only option that children had was to wear a pair of virtual wings and be a female fairy.
Disney has now introduced a boy names Slate who is a variation of the Tinker Bell character so that boys too can have a chance of playing the various games on the site. It also gives girls the opportunity to step out of their female personas, if that is what they want. This might come as a surprise to most parents, but girls who wanted to bend the gender rules on this site have always done so, albeit by making their fairy personas taller than the average and with shorter hair.
Needless to say, Disney has not gone so far as to term Slate a ‘fairy boy’ because he is called a Sparrow Man. Well built by Pixie Hollow standards, Slate is still very elfin and slim in comparison with other Disney male characters.
Tinker Bell was first introduced in J. M. Barrie’s novel “Peter Pan and Wendy’. She has been one of Disney’s most enduring characters and has captured the imagination of countless little girls since she first appeared in the Disney 1953 blockbuster Peter Pan. She has since appeared in TV features, and even in starring roles in movies under her own name.
Disney has long capitalized on her immense popularity by selling toys, dolls and games featuring her. That Tinker Bell also has her own section of Disneyland called Pixie Hollow is a tribute to her popularity. From a business point of view, she is Disney’s way of retaining their hold on children that Mickey Mouse would have created.
It is obvious that her attractiveness is not limited to little girls. Parents of little boys have had to come up with creative ways to let their little boys play in Pixie Hollow. The most common way that they could blend in and participate in the fun was to create a person with very short hair and a name that could easily be a boy’s or a girl’s.
That the addition of a boy persona was very overdue was revealed by the comments of visitors to the site. It is certainly about time that Disney opened the doors of Pixie Hollow to little boys as well, and not assume that only girls would like to play there. Children are surprisingly pliant and they do not follow the same hide bound conventions as adults do. For them, this is just another great way of playing online with their friends of all genders; the same was as they play in the classroom or in the playground. Adults could do to learn a little from children now and again, and Tinker Bell is just another case in point.
