Pool tables are a very common multi player game. You can find them in a number of places like: bars, clubs, recreational establishments, bowling alleys, basements and game rooms. In order to play you need a pool table, cue sticks and 15 numbered balls with strips and solid colors. This game does not have an age limit but instead a height requirement. They must be high enough to see over the table itself.
There are a few variations to the game of pool. The two widely known however are 9ball and 8ball. These two may sound alike but are played very differently. One includes all of the 15 balls while the other only includes 9 of them.
The game 9ball is where 9 balls are shot into the pockets chronologically. You must start at one and if you hit 2-8 in before their turn than it is the other persons turn. If the 9ball is sunk in before the other balls than that person loses.
8ball however is played with 15 balls instead. The object is to get all of your balls into the pockets and at the end the 8ball. After the balls are broken the first person to sink any ball except the 8ball is that type of ball (stripes or solids). The winner is the person whom sinks all of their balls and finally the 8ball. If someone sinks the 8ball before all of their other balls are shot in loses the game.
There are a number of different types of materials that are used with pool tables. The more common frame is wood and in the older days this was also the material for the surface. Wooden surfaces make for a very bumpy game play. Another and more common material for newer pool table surfaces is slate. Slate surfaces do not warp like wood and make for a very smooth game play.
On top of the table is a felt cloth. This cloth is made up of one fourth cotton and also three fourths wool. You can find the felt cloth in different colors so that it can match whatever the color of the room is. It is very important that you are careful with this part of the table because it is expensive to replace. Generally you will find that tables in bars or other open atmospheres have cheaper felt clothes because they get ruined easier.
Aside from different materials there are also a couple of types. The first is the normal pool table frame. The second type has the same frame but includes a coin machine on the side. Normally this type is found in establishments so that they can make an extra profit.
Pool tables are great fun for numerous occasions. Play with friends or even in tournaments for wages. Bets are also welcomed with this fine billiard game. The requirement of people is two but others can take turns rotating in if they wish to play as well. Practicing on the other hand though can be done alone for aim purposes and more.
